I'll bet the lawyers made sure the contracts are without loopholes.
What I found interesting and extremely annoying, predatory, is retirement home and LTCs management teams will do their best to figure out a person's income. and raise rents accordingly.
For example every senior receives a government benefit, so when it's increased rents are increased accordingly.
Net result? As inflation increases, the senior's buying power DEcreases. If they are living on government benefits eventually they can't afford to buy new clothing or shoes, replace mattresses or bedding, buy incontinence supplies, and so on.
Imagine not being able to buy a comfortable mattress, or new shoes. It happens. I've seen it.
edit:
Here's the fee schedule from the Ontario government
Note: In order to receive a subsidy, for example if one is on ODSP, the government takes away nearly all of your income and leaves the resident with last I heard it was $78.00 a month--that's for soap, shampoo, toilet paper, deodorant, shaving supplies, clothing, shoes, phone and cable, hair cuts, and recreation like books and crafts.
