Over the last few posts, we have been talking about textile waste and what we can do about it.
This feels like an important final piece. Even when something seems too worn out to repair, it does not mean it has reached the end of its life.
Textiles can still be repurposed and kept in use, rather than ending up in landfill.
It is not always about fixing everything ourselves, but knowing there are still better options out there.
Today is Earth Day 🌍
It is a chance to reflect on how our everyday choices impact the planet, and how small changes can add up over time.
Hearing stats like this really puts things into perspective. 92 million tonnes of textile waste goes to landfill in the UK every year, with around 30kg per household in Sheffield alone.
It is not about being perfect, but being more mindful. Repairing, reusing, and making things last longer all help reduce that impact.

Heute das erste mal aus Zutaten die ich zu Hause habe selbst Rasiergel gemacht und auch gleich getestet.
Rezept:
5 EL Aloe-Vera-Gel
2 EL Blütezeit sensitiv Duschgel
5 Tropfen Mandelöl mit Teebaumöl
½ TL geschmolzenes Kokosöl
Alles miteinander verrühren. Das kokosöl sollte nicht mehr warm sein. Das Mandelö zum Schluss dazu geben.
Ergebnis:
Kann durchaus mit einer bekannten Marke die aktuell meinen Geldbeutel übersteigt mithalten.
Making some new cleaning cloths from extremely well-used cotton jersey scraps that have already been part of at least two garments. This is the fabric’s last stop — when these cloths wear out, they go in the bin.
Method: Make a 23cm by 23cm pattern piece. Overlay scraps on each other to form a rough square that covers the entire pattern piece, and glue-baste to each other (not to the pattern piece!). Secure the overlaps on each side with zigzag stitching, then spray with water and press (or just press with steam) to make flat again (the jersey will have stretched out of shape during the sewing). Cut three pattern pieces for each cloth, and sew together along all edges, leaving a gap to turn through. Turn through, close the gap with hand or machine stitching, then topstitch around all edges. Optionally, topstitch a pleasing pattern across the now-turned-out square.
