A gay veteran sat at a sewing machine in 1977 because Harvey Milk dared him to give the community a symbol.

His name was Gilbert Baker. Eight stripes — pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, on up to violet for spirit. When Milk was murdered the next November, demand surged, the hot-pink fabric ran short, and the flag dropped to the six we know now.
They keep trying to lower it. They keep forgetting we're the ones who raise it.

She cut roughly 500 looks for Cats: The Jellicle Ball — five hundred separate acts of here I am — and turned a costume shop into a monument. First out trans person to ever hold the statue.
Taking up space is not a metaphor when your existence is the thing they're trying to legislate down to nothing. It's a body in a room built to keep it out, refusing to fold smaller.
