Abandoned military facilities and relics, echoes of war and conflicts of the past still stand all around us.

Military barracks reclaimed by nature. Grounded warbirds stand at the edges of old runways. Nuclear bunkers and warhead storage sites sit abandoned since the close of the Cold War. Rusted tanks wedged in ditches.

We can learn much from the mistakes of the past. At least, we should do!

I went on an evening walk through the area where I live and took a few pictures I'd like to share with y'all. The sky was really trying to tell me "thanks for coming outside, here's some awesome colors to look at."

also: another eery lost place that seems to have become somewhat un-lost... there's laundry in some of the windows.

Red Messiah, Austria. An abandoned 18th Century church, tucked away in a secluded mountainous area of Austria. The interior has a very striking Gothic style, with beautifully carved dark wooden pews strewn with cobwebs and years of dust.

I found a tiny and - to me - obscure lost place a few days ago: a defunct and broken level crossing gate that feels nearly poetic in its entirety. I don't really get why it's there. It's motorized but doesn't move. it is too short to come to rest on the fork on the other side. The path it's securing doesn't lead anywhere: not across the rails, not along them. There's nothing on the other side except a closed guard rail. What was it protecting? Why is it even there? the thought that I only am fascinated by it because I don't get how mundane or obvious it is is poetic in itself 😅.

Collective alt: shown is an open white and red tube shaped level grossing barrier that looks rusted. it sits right at the end of an overgrown path through a wood, ending in a dual track train line. Three photos show it from different perspectives.

🎙️Testing, testing! 1, 2! Is this thing on? I think the mic might be broken...

Inside an old control room inside an old factory, once part of Belgium's immense steel industry.
