I had never heard this artist before, and didn’t know what to expect given the above, the simple grade-school-type hand drawn cover art, and its Bandcamp tags – “heavy”, “human”, “rock”, “soft”, and “Austin”.
But I immediately felt at home in this album. In my house, this is what we would lovingly call “sad bastard music”. Indie folk/rock featuring simple but heartbreaking lyrics, fragile vocals, and gorgeous guitar work, with some songs having just a smidge of piano or other extra instrumentation and others having a nice big sound. If you are comfortable feeling your feelings with the likes of Elliott Smith, David Bazan/Pedro the Lion, Damien Jurado, and J Mascis’ solo work, I would highly recommend putting this on. I can’t stop listening to it.
