@lira for folks still going "that's too much, I'm already exhausted & don't know where to start" pick ONE THING to be the most annoyingly knowledgeable person in town about. Depth of knowledge on one thing you care about deeply gets you invited to sit on commissions & work groups. People WILL call you to come to stuff.

or at the very least have the local politicians go "oh shit, its THEM" when you turn up on something as you're about to drop a lot of detailed info on why they should/shouldn't do X

No, I'm here to complain specifically that zoning requiring all building entrances to be 2 feet above grade in this zone is an accessibility issue where you exclude wheelchair users because that's a 24' ramp add on to get ADA compliance. (an actual example. it was for Aesthetics, not flood avoidance. it was scrapped)

You don't have to do all these things at once. That's how you burn out. Pick one or two things to deal with. Have local pals do other ones and give you the digest on what's up. do same for them. Call 'em all in for when you simply need bodies at the meeting to support stuff.

or write letters to the relevant commission for folks with accessibility issues, limited time, immune issues that prevent attending public meetings. They HAVE to enter it into the record as being received and read.
