Lobster fishers who are about to start their spring season in North Lake, P.E.I., have another concern as setting day approaches — one many say is a first for them. There's an overturned dredge stuck just outside the community’s harbour. CBC’s Steve Bruce explains.

Lobster buoys are sanded and repainted every season. Buoy colors are chosen by each fisherman to differentiate their buoys from those of others. Usually sanding and painting happens in a fisherman’s workshop but on this occasion I sat in my truck bed to sand.

Thurston’s Lobster Pound or simply just “The Dock.” Maine’s wharfs are built out above the water on pilings so that fishermen can access them at both high and low tide. Even at low tide a 50-ft boat can pull directly up next to the wharf. This part of Maine has tides that typically fluctuate by 10-12 ft.
