Vier Lotsenhäuschen auf Ynys Llanddwyn. Auf der Gezeiteninsel #Llanddwyn lebten ab Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts Lotsen in diesen Cottages. Sie navigierten Schiffe zu den Häfen in der #MenaiStraße (Meeresenge zwischen #Anglesey und dem walisischen Festland). Die #Lotsen waren auch für das Rettungsboot der Insel verantwortlich, bis es 1903 stillgelegt wurde.

Four pilots' #cottages on #YnysLlanddwyn. From the early 19th century, pilots lived on the tidal island of Llanddwyn to guide ships safely into the ports along the #MenaiStrait (narrow channel dividing Anglesey from the Welsh mainland). The pilots also crewed the island's lifeboat until it was discontinued in 1903.

The ruins of #StDwynwensChurch on #YnysLlanddwyn for #SilentSunday.
The name of the tiny tidal island, "#Llanddwyn", means "the church of Saint Dwynwen". As the Welsh patron saint of lovers (and of sick animals, by the way), she's considered the equivalent of St. Valentine. Her church became a major shrine and pilgrimage site during the Middle Ages but fell into disrepair after the Reformation.
