@midgephoto @multiburst In fact, the unsafety of #LithiumIon and #LithiumPolymer batteries is why fire departments and EMS still use diesel engines in their vehicles, because they'd have to function and be refuelable even when a storm killed the power grid...

#Methanol would be a good replacement for these...

Same with any form of contractors or assistance services that need to be ready at a moments' notice to drive to a client / patient in need.

The tiny 400mAh #LithiumPolymer #battery in this cheap #Bluetooth #speaker turned into a puffed up pillow. I've replaced it with a 350mAh one I salvaged from a single-use disposable #vape device. In spite of the lower capacity, it is significantly larger than the original battery. Hope it can still fit in the available space.

Also fitted a JST connector to the speaker wires in case I need to disassemble again for a future #repair.

The problem is inherent in the design of non - #ToolFree #replaceable #LithiumIon and #LithiumPolymer batteries AND the fact that this #dangerous #Battery design is even legal.

This problem doesn't exist with #LiFePO4 cells and those ain't that bad either...

In fact, they won't become #DangerPillow|s nor age terribly and they hold longer on lower partial discharges...

If we don't want combustion engines, we shure as hell should look into #FuelCells, espechally #Methanol (#MRFC) which solve the #capacity / #RangeAnxiety, #refueling / #ChargingAnxiety and #EnergyDensity as well as #Distribution problem elegantly...

After all, Methanol handles just like #gasoline in terms of #safety except it's safer for the user and envoirment than fully-synthetic #E85 #RacingFuel...

Unlike #Hydrogen-#FuelCell it also saves weight and complexity because there isn't some 700bar high-pressure gas system and tanks that are inherently leaky (cuz Hydrogen!)...

Continuing the theme of disposable #vapes disguised as beverages, these take the shape of sports water bottles. Each has a USB-C port for recharging the 600mAh #lithiumPolymer battery.

There is an inner shell protecting the battery so it is undamaged despite the case being cracked open by force -- likely stomped on or run over by car. But likely suffered internal damage from a very brutal recharging regime.

On the other hand it depends on your useage type and the cargind and discharging controls whether a #LithiumIon / #LithiumPolymer battery becomes a #DangerPillow.

Personally, I prefer #ToolFree #Swappable #Batteries to the point that I'm really looking into finding #LiFePO4 cells and a proper charging/discharging / BMS to use it as a #battery for the #NUCbook.

But that's just me trying a project that needs 6+ digits on 2- digits.
