“The fire did start in a vape shop which has only been open for a matter of months. It’s unclear whether this vape shop had planning consent and what its registration was. Clearly storing highly volatile flammable substances like lithium batteries in an historic building,175 years old, with all the fire risk that entails, raises serious questions about the oversight and management of all these premises in the city and of course across Scotland and the whole UK.“ #LithiumBatteries

Lithium ion batteries on a truck caught fire on the Hume Highway near Yass, forcing the road to close in both directions due to toxic smoke and health risks. A large exclusion zone was set up and nearby residents were advised to stay indoors. No injuries reported, but it is another reminder that transport and safety standards for battery storage and freight really matter.

Dendrites can cause short circuits in #lithiumbatteries. Researchers, including Fabian Apfelbeck, found such structures may also form inside polymer-based #electrolytes, not only at electrodes. This finding could improve solid-state #batteries: http://go.tum.de/518497

Not that I advocate for combustion engines - far from it.

Also #FuelCell solves the #RangeProblem or rather "#RangeFear" elegantly with existing (or at least trivially convertible) infrastructure, as it's way faster and cheaper to clean a fuel storage tank and pump and converting it to IPCA 99,9% Methanol, which whilst toxic upon ingestion is abundant in nature to the point that unlike #gasoline it's naturally being decomposed by bacteria and fungi.

Cuz that's what happens when someone decided to go completely bonkers in terms of high-end...

Anker Power Banks Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazards; Manufactured by Anker Innovations

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power banks and visit Anker’s Recall Page at https://www.anker.com/rc2506 to verify the product serial number and register for the recall. Consumers with an impacted product should contact Anker Innovations Limited to receive a full cash refund, or an Anker gift card that can be used across a variety of Anker product lines.  To receive the remedy, consumers will be required to submit a photo of their recalled power bank showing the model number, serial number, their name, the date of the photograph, and the word “recalled” written on the power bank in permanent marker. Anker will provide instructions for consumers on how to return or dispose of the recalled power banks.  Note: Do not throw this recalled lithium-ion battery or device in the trash, the general recycling stream (e.g., street-level or curbside recycling bins), or used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores. Recalled lithium-ion batteries must be disposed of differently than other batteries, because they present a greater risk of fire. Your municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center may accept this recalled lithium-ion battery or device for disposal. Before taking your battery or device to a HHW collection center, contact that office ahead of time and ask whether it accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries. If it does not, contact your municipality for further guidance.
