#WritersCoffeeClub 16 May. What's a writerly risk you've taken recently? Did it pay off?
I finally bit the bullet and committed to organising a little local lit fest during my town’s winter festival (we are a popular Western Australian winter destination for forest hikes and cosy firesides).
A local children’s author has agreed to do a session, I’ve asked a local crime writer to do a session, I’m going to do a fun one for romance/romantasy fans on “design your own hero” using HeroForge and wine, and a friend of a friend *might* come down to talk about her book set on the Bibbulmun track (long shot). If needed, I’ll run a session on cosy reads for a cosy town but I hope to get enough other people running sessions that I don’t have to.
In typical small town fashion, everyone’s still a bit hung up on the fact that someone else used to do this years ago, and called it “Words in the Valley” whereas I think it’s important to have the placename in the name (not that Bridgetown Writers Festival is particularly inspired but at least you know where and what it is at a glance…)
Don’t know that it’ll pay off in a writerly way, but I’ll find it personally satisfying if it goes well.
