Gyn recommended two herbal things for menopause hot flushes - black cohosh and/or hops. I am glad I know how to read PubMed studies.
The first is not well studied, with some countries slapping a liver damage warning on it.
The second has components that look interesting in a many ways:
- anti-inflammatory but no measured impact on kidneys (could help the arthritis, cystic mastopathy, …)
- encourages lipolysis and helps slow the deposit of fat, encouraging it to be burnt instead (it may help against lipedema & weght loss, indirectly protect heart and lowering BP)
- the phytoestrogen binds well to receptors, and dampens the typical hormonal breast cancer mechanisms
I’ll experiment to see how it affects kidney values and inflammation markers - I get tested every three months anyway.
And lets hope the hops live up to the hype for lessening nightly hot flushes and insomnia.
