I've been listening to podcasts about the Civil War and have been struck by how almost everyone mispronounces Ku Klux Klan, saying "CLUE" for the first part even though there is no "L". Among the offenders are commentators in Ken Burn's The Civil War, everyone on NPR news, and, if memory serves me, characters in the movie, BlacKkKlansman, which is astounding. I found an image from the 1930s that shows that it's not just a modern problem. What sorcery is this? 🪄 I often catch myself typing 'anough' for 'enough'. It's also closer to how I pronounce it. I may adopt this spelling out of spite. Does this happen in other languages?

"Es war einmal ein Lattenzaun, mit Zwischenraum, hindurchzuschaun" which I especially love for the 'punchline' at the end. 😀

Question for those who know #asl or other forms of #signlanguage, and especially those who are also familiar with #linquistics and #phonetics... presumably there are dialects in sign languages, but are there accents? Shibboleths, localized mannerisms, subtle differences in how far or vigorous motions are made, or how they're combined with other attributes of body language?

I'm trying to find a #conscript i ran across some time in the past, that tried to reconcile the latin and cyrillic scripts, to present a single one that can be read by those familiar with either fairly easily. i think the premise was for a sci-fi setting of a planet colonized by english and russian speaking settlers or something. any leads anyone?
