Gentoo Linux on my mini PC: Encrypted root + BTRFS with subvolumes + OpenRC + Limine bootloader. Its a start! ✅

Distro-hopping now on pause. Month of March is all about Gentoo. Plan is to take this base system and build it up to a lightweight desktop with Wayland + TBD window manager.

Next up: Learn more about Portage/emerge.

I've been having so much fun exploring Gentoo Linux these past few days! 

I now having a working configuration of Gentoo (in a VM) with a combination of root encryption + BTRFS + OpenRC + Limine bootloader. ✅

Next up is bare metal install.

Ensimmäiset pari päivää takana CachyOS Linuxin kanssa ja hommat on saatu ns. alulle. Kuten aiemmin sanoin, niin Windowsin rinnalle asennellaan CachyOS ja näin tapahtui tässä tiistaina iltapuhteiksi. Katsotaan hieman mihin asti on päästy parina iltana ja mitä on tullut vastaan tähän mennessä.

Bin #opensuse und habe aus Neugier bei #cachyos "reingeschaut" (niri + noctalia).
Dabei war es mir wichtig snapshots zu haben. Das geht mit #limine bootloader + #btrfs

Soweit kann ich nichts Negatives berichten.

Tho... via Limine it doesn't seem to use UKI according to bootctl? How tf does it work then???

I imagine this is less safe than Lanzaboote then, since Lanzaboote makes measured UKIs, is it not possible to use UKI with Limine?

(terminal window is ssh to my NAS with lanzaboote, vscodium is my PC with Limine)

So, after running to a few silly issues I decided to fresh install #arch and did the a #cachyos hybrid on my secondary drive. I was able to get #steam to install from the package manager without needing to use a flatpak. Migrated it to my primary drive. I guess a frankenbuild is okay. I'm not sure if the improvements are a placebo or if it's actually playing games better. But, I'm not upset. Switched to #limine for this install. So far things are stable. #linux

Der Hype #CachyOS mal auf mein ThinkPad X230 installiert. Dazu habe ich #Limine genutzt.

"Direct support for Btrfs snapshots, which is enabled by default for installations using Btrfs as a filesystem."

Hat alles was ich mag.

* KDE Plasma
* btrfs
* macht snapshots vor der Aktualisierung

Das kann man so machen 😀
