#HashTagGames folks, I have a small request. Put the two hashtags at the bottom of your post, on a single line by themselves. Mastodon improves the display of them.

#LikeThis #AndThis

@Reze_boom

You add # and write whatever next to it, it similar to tumblr or uuuuuuuuuuh wattpad actually

#likethis!!!

Dw, im dumc, so ig we can be dumb together!!!

@angrybooklady You should be okay as long as they’re not stupid questions about Linux, those will summon the bees.

Welcome! Discover over here is very hashtag-driven since there’s no algorithm, so a lot of people make an introduction post with hashtags of all the stuff they’re likely to post about. You can also follow hashtags and everything posted about that subject will show up in your home feed. But Mastodon is pretty popular with people using screen readers, so if you add a line break at the end of your post and then add all the hashtags at the end, it’ll show up in a tidy, not-obnoxious way:

#LikeThis

@Insy812 its a # then add your words without a space between them and the # on your phone keyboard its where the (?123) is
#LikeThis Also as an aid to those who use screen readers using camel case aka capitalising each word helps readers read the hash tag properly. I hope that makes sense?

I have only just discovered how to present hash tags in a little bar at the bottom of the toot.

#HashTag #LikeThis

@julia I see.
weren't they
#like-this
before? because if so yeah that's a big improvement

oh, probably not.

small is supposed to only be there for when we're using tags, which are wrapped in small tags

#like-this

hmm
1) if you wanna interact with bluesky posts you first go to Settings -> Account -> Enable Bluesky. it can't receive more than 300 characters at a time so posts going there get cut off with a link but there's no real character limit here so write as much as u want to
2) on the post creation screen there's a globe (usually) on the left. that means that a post is public and shows up everywhere. you can send private messages by checking the last option "Direct Message" and tagging people by typing @ and their username after.
3) alt text is required on images and videos. please write a description for people who can't see the image, even if it's short.
4) NSFW is allowed, but should be labeled. users use Content Warnings (CWs) to label different kinds of sensitive content. you can label your posts by clicking the warning sign above (⚠️) and typing out the warning.
5) posts here are shown chronologically. replying is functionally the same as reblogging (but with your addition). your dash will look really empty at first and fill up as you follow people. liking posts does nothing to boost it but it feels nice for the author. you can bookmark posts to see later by clicking on the bookmark icon, nobody sees if you do.
6) posts support markdown and some html. you can read more about that here. profiles also support custom css, which can be edited in More -> Theme Editor.
7) tags support spaces and are separated by commas. on servers that don't support spaces in tags they're divided by hyphens ( - ) instead.
8) wafrn doesn't only connect to bluesky. it's also federated, which means it talks to other servers (fedi instances) and you can interact with those servers posts and users. you can click on Explore -> WAFRN & Friends to see them.
9) search barely works. you can search by tag and search up individual fedi/bluesky posts by url. try clicking on the wafrn tag under this post and looking at the results.
10) there are many custom emojis and there will be more. fedi friends can see them same as you do :cat_smoke:, bluesky users don't (hopefully that changes).
11) you can send asks and quote posts. to quote a post, click on the quote icon above, insert the url of the post you want to quote below and click on the plus sign.
sorry it's a lot, a lot of fun hopefully
