I'm currently recovering from eye surgery and it hasn't been comfortable to use screens for the past few days.
During that time I've been listening to audiobooks, sat and listened to albums all the way through, not using them as background music, and generally relaxing, as per doctor's orders.
Have to say it has been bliss! I wasn't putting pressure on myself to do things, wasn't beating myself up because I wasn't making efforts to meet some mythical life goal, just taking the time to concentrate on good things, the desire for which came naturally.
Then I put the computer on again and all the bad habits come flooding back, the scrolling and checking, the abortive attempts to do stuff because I feel I have to rather than me wanting to. I just want that space back, or rather I want a happy medium.
Do you ever get those days where, no matter what you do, you feel you're just making everyone else's day harder and getting on their nerves?
Then tomorrow I'll overcompensate, try not to speak to anyone, keep out of everyone's way, and just cause more grief?
Can't seem to win.
Life is like a truly miserable hike. You start off with a naive sense of optimism, brimming with joy and energy, blissfully unaware of what lies ahead. Then, the weather takes a turn for the worse, the path becomes rocky and steep, and suddenly you're lost. By the end, it's all downhillāthough it never really gets easier. But in the end, youāve just grown accustomed to the struggle and are solely focused on getting it over with.
