#Minneapolis #LifeDuringWartime 2 anecdotes from yesterday: acquaintances on a nearby block that has seen several kidnappings and has foiled several more, participated in taking all the kids who've been in hiding for 2 months now out to the park for guarded play time. And the American Swedish Institute wins for best passive-aggressive anti 🧊 sign: “This is private property. We reserve the right to remove anyone who disrupts the viewing experience for our visitors.”
#Minneapolis #LifeDuringWartime A surprising number of guys of all flavors stop by DreamHaven to thank Greg for standing up to 🧊. This week, it was a 77 year old man who drove hours from northern MN to shake his hand and get his autograph. This guy and his neighbors and friends have organized a weekly protest at the “only stoplight in town.” This is actually pretty huge - MN is generally grotesquely conservative outside the bigger cities and college towns.
#Minneapolis #LifeDuringWartime I have just stood guard over the two Latino teens who shovel for me when snow removal is too much for my mangled tendons. We talked about a safety plan ahead of time, checked in when they got here and then I watched the street and the backyard cam while they shoveled. These are hardworking nice young men who deserve a fucking future in this country and I am filled with extra boiling rage at anyone who wants to take that away from them.
#Minneapolis #LifeDuringWartime I can’t do snow shoveling beyond a certain limit because my elbows are shot so I hire a couple of young Latino guys from my neighborhood when it snows. Talked to them tonight about them shoveling tomorrow, checked in re: how safe they felt, then told them the doors would be unlocked and they were to come inside immediately if they saw anyone hinky around. And that I’d be watching the street from the house too. Tots believing in that “drawdown.” 😠
#Minneapolis #LifeDuringWartime Went out to run errands this AM, spotted a black SUV with a temp plate on the back sprawling across 3 parking places in the drugstore parking lot, stopped off to warn the folks at the local foodshelf, sent out a notice on the neighborhood feeds. Ain’t no “drawdown” on the ground, folks. Stay vigilant and don’t fall for anything that says different until we can see it.
#Minneapolis #LifeDuringWartime I just bought a ticket to the Soup + Solidarity event at the queer community center in which a Hindu man who makes momos and soup is teaming up with a white gay man who makes ice cream and coffee drinks to stock the foodshelf of a local Somali woman-led nonprofit in time for Ramadan. A+ on every every level. 👍🏻
#Minneapolis #LifeDuringWartime In line to pick up lunch at my local worker-run cafe. Tiny woman, probably Latina, ahead of me, negotiating in broken English to buy gift cards for other folks because she had some $ for it and dammit, she was going to spend it at her local crunchy/punk/Lefty cafe and staff having to make up cards for her because they had sold every gift card they had yesterday. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

#Minneapolis #LifeDuringWartime Met friend at Colombian-owned cafe for lunch, stopped by farm to table store to get sheep’s milk and cheese and talk to the farmers about how Greg/DreamHaven is doing and exchange “Fuck 🧊’s”, ran more errands, honked and waved at the bus stop monitors and exchanged pleasantries with the young anarchist person guarding the library. Next up, a visit to Alex Pretti’s memorial and dinner at Black Forest Inn, which has been very supportive of our side.
