At London #Heathrowairport you are now allowed 2 liters of #liquids in your #handluggage at security. And you can actually leave everything in your bag, no annoying unpacking and repacking of liquids, electronics etc

Sounds nice at first glance.

For some reason though, they route EVERY SINGLE bag with a liquid bottle through manual inspection after the machine scan, take the bottles out and give each bottle two separate scans with smaller, purpose made devices. I had to queue for almost 15 min because if this. I had a 330ml can of soda with me too, which they didn't even look at.

I don't really get it. My #traveladvice: don't take (filled) bottles with you through security, only cans.

Fly nonstop from London to Sydney: Qantas plans 22-hour direct flight

Qantas Airways plans to launch the world’s longest direct flight next year, a service of up to 22 hours nonstop between London and Sydney. The Sydney-based airline on Thursday unveiled the first of its specially-modified Airbus A350-1000 jets that will regularly make the 17,015-kilometer (10,573-mile) journey from October next year. The flights between cities on opposite sides of the world are expected to take between 19 and 22 hours. The current longest regularly scheduled direct flight is Singapore Airlines’ route between its city-state base and New York City. The distance of 15,349 kilometers (9,537 miles) is flown in under 19 hours.

Heathrow: Boarding starts at 8:40. It may take up to fifteen minutes to walk to your gate. "Please allow enough time to reach your gate." It's 8:44. We're still not telling you what your gate is. May be the famous British humor.

In seriousness, I don't know any airport that announces gates this late. Is this some deal with the shops to keep people around the central concourse?
