ANKEA Festival 2026 – A Promising New Chapter for Finland’s Metal Scene

When a completely new festival appears on the calendar, there is always a question hanging in the air: will people show up? As we drove the two hours from Helsinki to Tampere for the very first edition of ANKEA Festival, held on June 5–6, we were about to find out. The answer became clear almost immediately. Despite being a first-year event, ANKEA never felt like one.

It took me a good 10 minutes to recognise which song's fragment (that whale-like part) came to my mind suddenly. Brain freeze passed:

There are so many things to love about this video: the floppy bass drum, the sous-drummer, the rate he's going through sticks, him missing the china, the ferocity he's attacking his gear with.
Anyway, this one song, an excellent one for #MittwochMetalMix, sparked a whole discography re-listen.

For #bcf, I'm going to buy the album Floodgate by #ImminentSonicDestruction.
While I don't exactly like the sound of the singer's voice, some of the music that's happening feels intriguing. The music is in that general #ProgMetal area that I tend to enjoy. I can't really compare it to other bands for #ffo, but the page tags this release as:
