Advice, please?
At the age of 9, I was diagnosed with a lazy eye which they determined to be legally blind. I've never noticed my blindness, really. It honestly has never limited me in my opinion. I neither receive nor claim any disability in relation to this eye.
My dilemma is this: when I'm focused or in the zone with a project or interest, my periphery vision on that side basically becomes a black hole. It's just a part of me that "shuts off" when I'm not actively using it. Sometimes, total strangers will enter my personal space [in the store, for example] while I'm zoned out enjoying shopping. They do not excuse or announce themselves while at a respectable distance. Rather, I'll be reading a box of cereal & a disembodied arm appears, reaching for a box next to it. I apologize and excuse myself while getting out of their way. But the experiences often leave me embarrassed or shaken up.
Any tips or tricks to handle this? Thank y'all in advance.
