Greetings, I have been lurking here for a year and enjoying it greatly, though I often feel like I'm doing it wrong and everyone is looking at me the way Lucifer, below, looks at me when I'm trying to read. Advice or tips on how to best participate here on kolektiva are welcome!

I am an educator, writer, anarchist, #bicycle and #linux and #garden #tinker , #dad of three humans, five cats, and a dog, and #polyamory partner to two wonderful humans.

Just talk to anyone #LeavingFacebook or who's #QuitTwitter for bluesky or the fediverse... it's quite a revelation.
The main adjustment for folks who are #LeavingFacebook or just #QuitTwitter is that you have to be proactive about following here. Bluesky isn't going to spoon feed you, instead you have to go out and look for the things that interest you and follow the people who post on your favorite topics.
Have you just #QuitTwitter or are #LeavingFacebook this holiday season? Well, climb aboard #newsky and enjoy this guide to everything you need to know to get the most out of Bluesky as a #NewUser www.collectorsrealm3.net/2025/05/30/c...

TidBITS: Why TidBITS Will No Longer Post to X/Twitter or Facebook. “What began as digital dysfunction has metastasized into tangible societal harm. Thus, this article marks our final post to X/Twitter and Facebook. I can no longer ethically provide material support to platforms whose leadership so actively undermines civil society. The TidBITS accounts will remain, but they will stand silent, […]

Slate: Queer People Are in the Midst of a Painful Social Media Migration. “When Meta changed its ‘hateful conduct’ policy earlier this year, it made platforms like Facebook feel unsafe for trans and other users. But moving on, even ‘just’ online, isn’t so easy.”

There's an important argument for #leavingfacebook and #leavingtwitter that you don't see much, probably because people are modest.

I produce a *lot* of soc-med content, and I believe the quality is high too. So after I left #Twitter in 2022 and #Facebook last week, there's less to see there and the average quality is lower.

Well I did it - I put up the "I'm out" post on FB, and deleted the apps. I'm keeping my accounts for the contacts and so people can find me elsewhere, and because identity hijacking is always a concern, but I'm done with posting. I'm expecting it'll be a while before anyone actually sees the post, thanks to the algorithm, if it doesn't just suppress posts like this entirely.
