Important reminder everyone: 2024 is one of those weird leap years where we do more than have an extra day in February: this year we'll have an extra month between September and October called Thirtember. It's 30 days long.
If you're a software developer please make sure your software shows the extra month correctly.
That is all.
How long is an #astronomical #year?
tropical year = 365.24219 (mean solar) days
sidereal year = 365.25636 (mean solar) days
anomalistic year = 365.25964 (mean solar) days
How long is a #calendar year?
Revised Julian = 365.2422 days
Gregorian = 365.2425 days
Julian = 365.25 days
Perhaps century years should only be #leapyears if dividing the year by 900 produces a remainder of 200 or 600.

I just noticed that the #ssh #password groping appears to have stopped just before midnight UTC Feb 28. Does that mean they did not teach their bots about #leapyears?
Anybody else seeing something similar (or is it just that the bots targeting my boxes are dafter than the rest)?
In principle, the position of #Mercedonius was supposed to switch back and forth in alternate #LeapYears, but this was never consistent. Even if it was, it would result in a mean year of 366.25 days, this giving a calendar that didn't track the #sun OR the #moon, because the #Romans were just *the worst* at timekeeping.
But wait! It gets worse!
