Omitting that detail manipulates the facts and makes the accusation fallacious.

All these stories about how Facebook and Google and/or their algorithms failed by promoting a 4chan fake story about Las Vegas shooter assume it's Google and Facebook's duty to babysit us so we don't need to use our own judgement and critical thinking when reading news from doubtful sources.
The ones that blame Google and Facebook are defending stupidization and intellectual laziness on the readers.
