After seeing Totoro on the big screen last weekend I started thinking about the other Ghibli films coming to theaters this year. My thoughts went to Howl and Mononoke Hime, but also to Porco Rosso. Although itโ€™s not considered one of Miyazakiโ€™s best films(Iโ€™d say otherwise), it is one of the most beautiful. The colors and characters are some of the most real in any of his movies. And itโ€™s Friday. #laserdiscfriday #porcorosso
This weekโ€™s #laserdiscfriday entry from is Innocent Blood. I donโ€™t think the film gets enough love. Despite having a good cast great director and a good script. Featuring Robert Loggia and Don Rickles. How can it be bad? Directed by John Landis.
I figured I should toggle back and forth between my domestic and imports for #laserdiscfriday This set of ovas has some of the best music in anime. Yoko Kanno really out did herself here.
Got reminded what day it is by @hex
This was what I thought of when seeing his copy of near dark

Now that Mononoke Hime lost in #moviebowl
I feel obligated to make a
#laserdiscfriday post.

This my favorite Miyazaki film. A long long time ago I actually fansubbed this film to show at a convention before most of the West had even seen it.
It's that time again people. For this week's #laserdiscfriday I present the only LD I have two copies of. Damn me for not verifying the first one was widescreen/letterboxed.
Since weโ€™re already off and running for #laserdiscfriday

Hereโ€™s hands down the best Disney film ever made
#fightme
And here go for #laserdiscfriday heres my copy of Escape from New York. So many good things to say I donโ€™t know where to start. If you never seen it, rectify that.
Happy #laserdiscfriday
This week I decided to share one of favorite films from Miyazaki: Nausicaรค Of The Valley Of The Wind.

I can't remember when exactly I saw it first, but I think it was a crappy cut of the movie on HBO in the 80s. When I got this LD it was a Japanese import and long before the Ghibli/Disney partnership. The first HUGE difference is the opening title/credit sequence, which was entirely cut from the version I was familiar with. This sequence is titular to the film yet is remove, I think, because they did not want the credits shown in Japanese.

For those unfamiliar with Japanese LDs, this is not a slipcover I bought for the disc. All discs from Japan come in a thicker plastic, probably 3 or 4 mil which is not shrink wrapped to LD. All my imports I used a razor and cut off one side of this plastic to keep the LD nice. And yes, that is the original price I paid back in 1997.

My post for this week is John Wooโ€™s Hard Boiled. Great film and this Criterion edition looks fantastic.
