The great black-backed gull (Larus marinus) grows to a length of up to 74 cm and has a wingspan of up to 70 cm. It is the largest gull in the world and feeds on fish, eggs and young birds, among other things. Sometimes, it also chase other animals to steal their prey.

ℹ️ Die Matelmöwe (larus marinus) wird bis zu 74 cm groß und bekommt eine Spannweite von bis zu 70 cm. Sie ist die größte Möwe der Welt und ernährt sich u.a. von Fischen, Eiern und Jungvögeln. Dabei jagt sie gerne auch anderen Tieren die Beute ab.

Photos like these make feel like I am an animal paparazzi – stalking the local wildlife and peeking behind trees and rocks with a camera. And if the largest gull species in the world shows me its bum, I'll take an "upskirt photo" of it if I have to. That indignant stare...

Pirates! These gulls are not just any ordinary gulls – they are great black-backed gulls, the largest gull species in the world. In October, I saw a group of them following goosanders that were fishing. Once the gulls saw a goosander with a fish... I followed the birds for a while, but I was not fast enough to photograph the successful attempts :(

Great black-backed gulls are cool birds, they are not cute, but I still like them. On Monday, I found one perching on a transmission tower and took a picture of its bum from below because of course. Maybe you'll see it here some day :)
