Lansing's property tax is a layered system totaling 62.6447 mills for a typical homestead property, reflecting the combined funding of twenty-three separate line items across city, county, school, and regional authorities. The city's portion (23.2 mills) funds core municipal services such as full-time police and fire, while voter-approved ballot millages for school bonds, LCC, and transit account for roughly a third of the total bill. On May 5, 2026, voters approved a new 0.55-mill special education bond for Ingham ISD, which will appear on future tax bills.
