Here, the one big yellow thingie from 9th carries a huge iron beam around the corner to 42nd and passes it off to another big yellow thingie who brings it to the guy with the flip-down welding mask. So cool.

Midtown construction! This is 42nd at 9th. Shown is 42nd, but there are lanes closed on 9th also, from 43 to 41st.
Especially dangerous for bicyclists heading south on 9th, with no bike lane.

THE OUTDOOR MUSEUM…
Narrow. Dingy. Dirty. Uninviting. vaguelly threating in their anonymity. What lies along their length? What happens here? They are the liminal spaces between buildings. Most people don’t notice them. They walk straight past.

Lanes, alleyways. They are what I am talking about. Like this one in downtown Hobart, Tasmania. I notice them. Occasionally I stop and look, take a photo to capture their unnoticed presence.

How do you photograph laneways to capture their essential emptiness? They offer linear perspective but sometimes their is no focal point feature for that perspective to lead the eye to. Just the anonymity of an uninteresting building at their end.

Laneways offer no architectural revelation. This one was different. It offered a splash of graffiti, a burst of colour to relieve its drabness.
