I visited the Yase area today, located in the northern part of Kyoto City, at the foot of Mt. Hiei.

Some of the leaves have started to turn red, creating a beautiful gradation of colors.

On our way back to the ship after visiting the Borgund stave church in 2013 we took the snaking mountain road route instead of the tunnel and this gave us the opportunity to stop at Stegastein, a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Aurlandsfjord and the village of Aurlandsvangen, which we'd also stop in afterwards. The weather wasn't wonderful with a steady, cold rain that soaked us and washed out the distant views along the fjord, but it was very atmospheric and a great sight.
