Rhine Falls visit
From Reichenau Island I rode the cycling path to Constance where I crossed the Lake Rhine on the bicycle bridge (1st pic). From there I crossed into Switzerland and followed the river. There was a brief rain shower at around Mammern, but after that the sun came out.
Behind Stein am Rhein I turned a corner and found the cutest wooden houses adorned with flowers. It was like I passed through a portal and skipped a couple of centuries into the past.
In Diessenhofen I crossed the river on a covered wooden bridge and then followed a gravel path all the way to Schaffhausen to see the Rhine Falls. Thanks to the rainfall lately the water levels of the river Rhine recovered and so the waterfall was quite the spectacle again.
I sat down on bench and ate some Streuselkuchen and filled up my water bottles at a fountaine. Then I started my way back via Thayngen, which took me mostly through the busy city of Schaffhausen and then following along a road with heavy traffic. Luckily the cycling path veered off the road and followed the Biber creek with fields planted with corn on the left and the creek to the right. I passed through the german enclave Buch, which is completely enveloped by Switzerland and from there mostly took back road through fields and meadows with the occasional gravel road towards Radolfzell. There is this lovely bicycle road between the rail roads and the lake shore shaded by trees, which put me on the home stretch.
After 5,5h and 120km I arrived back home very hungry. The last kilometers I ate some Haribos to keep me going. That piece of cake was not enough to fuel me all the way.
