I found this ladybug and thought it was a *Harmonia axyridis* (harlequin ladybird) in fancy dress. It probably is: this Asian species can exhibit over 100 documented pattern variations, making it a fascinating nightmare to identify in the field.

Ladybug larvae and pupa. Several shrubs beside a nearby river were so covered in them. There were also a few black aphids on those shrubs. Apparently the larvae were having a feast.
