Getting into the swing of which bits of me and my life go on mastodon, this time by adding a profile image. Which leads me to this week's #OneCoolThing

An exhibition of Yolŋu people's art that I saw last year: Yolŋu power the art of Yirrkala

The website with information on the exhibition is still up, including images of lots of the artworks: https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/whats-on/exhibitions/yolngu-power/

The art is diverse and interesting, showing connection to country and people's stories. It was one of those exhibitions that stays with you. Not as good online, but still worth knowing about.

Context: the Yolŋu a people from coastal northern Australia. They are still strong in language and culture, despite two centuries of colonisation.

Many modern artists are Yolŋu, and they have us one of my favourite bands Yothu Yindi. A bonus cool thing - not into art? Check out this band instead. Perhaps making the one cool thing Yolŋu art in general rather than an exhibition :)

We have an answer. #OneCoolThing as suggested by @VisualStuart

Purpose: recommend/share something that you (a human) like or enjoy with other humans so we can practice not relying on algorithms, which, let's be honest, mostly don't help us find new things just more of the same. Part of the #aliveinternet

I'm also going to use #KrinsRecs for my specific shares, possibly as part of a wider personal project.

Feel free to contribute to the first, and follow the second if you want.

I just created my first actual share, for those of us who love costuming.

Inaugural #OneCoolThing: I am utterly enjoying the wonder and fun of Grace Duval and her amazing wearable art creations. I'm an amateur costumer so her art is an inspiration. I found her work via her process diaries (is that the correct word?) on YouTube, and they now herald an enjoyable hour of entertainment whenever she releases something new.

She has heart, and soul, and moxie, and skills. She brightens my world. She might brighten yours as well.

How find Grace
- Website, with PHOTOS: https://www.graceduval.com/
- Her tumblr: https://graceduval.tumblr.com/
- Her YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@GraceDuVal

I'd specifically recommend either of these:
1. Can you 3D print a ghost. It's a beautiful reflection on grieving her father through her craft: https://youtu.be/BG5QlWo0M0w
2. DIY Emerald City Costumes. The opposite energy of the first, full of joy and fun in creation: https://youtu.be/UsM5QYmZQZw

#KrinsRecs #WearableArt

(what is this? It's an answer to my yearning for real humans sharing cool stuff they admire with other humans, not just allowing the feed to hopefully serve it up to us. Join in with recommendations on the #OneCoolThing hastag)

@VisualStuart
I think we have a winner, let's do it.

Following a chat with a colleague I'm going to also use #krinsrecs as in Recommendations by Krin, for my specific contribution. We both agreed that a wider option was needed so others could also embrace it and I returned to find this idea.
