Mardi Gras returning to Jefferson Street for 2026
For the first time in decades, Lafayette’s largest Mardi Gras parade routes will go down Jefferson Street again, floats and all.
Lafayette’s Mayor-President announced the decision in a release on Monday, after test runs to ensure floats could safely maneuver downtown’s infrastructure.
“The return of Lafayette’s Mardi Gras route to its original downtown location marks a meaningful moment for our community,” said Boulet in the release.
In previous years, smaller parades like Krewe de Canailles still marched on Jefferson Street; now the main parade route will also cross through Downtown.
The parades will still start at the intersection of Surrey and Simcoe Streets before turning on North Chestnut Street and traveling along West Second Street. The parade will then enter Jefferson Street at East Cypress Street, and continue through Downtown, before turning onto Johnston Street and heading to Cajun Field.
Here is more information on the 2026 route.
There is currently no timeline for barricade deployment, with LCG saying an announcement will come closer to the parades themselves, which are set to start the weekend of Feb. 6, 2026, and end Feb. 17.
