Contrary to appearance, this is not a public toilet, but is known as kuhachi-ya, an Edo period-style sake drinking house. The inscription on the wooden sign next to my wife reads: "Do not fill sake cup to the brim. Nine-tenths in the daytime, eight-tenths at night. It is wise to keep a modest attitude to all things."

I wonder if the French government were thinking of this when they introduced the Loi Evin on the promotion and sale of alcoholic beverages and the industry pushback to include the tagline "A consommer avec modération"?

Walked in the pouring rain through Okayama Korakuen. Built in 1687, it is one of the 3 most beautiful traditional Japanese gardens in the country.

And also the wettest. With sand & dirt paths & ankle deep puddles, this was a tough tour. We literally burned through what was supposed to be a 90min tour in 60min. I felt bad for our tour guide.

No one really wanted to be there, despite the beautiful scenery. I couldn't even feed any animals like the cranes.
