If you want to get into #WomensCycling today is a good day to watch a bike race. It's Trofeo Alfredo Binda. This is the only monument of the women's spring campaign. This race was there before any other, it's over 50 years old and has always been a women's race. It has a finishing circuit with a few nasty Italian climbs in it. It can be a (reduced) bunch sprint, a small group of 2-3 riders going to the line or a solo victory and the odds of each outcome change 4-5 times during the final. This is what Milano - San Remo used to be like.

Your yearly reminder that Strade Bianche is a beautiful race, the cypresses, the Tuscan hills, dust flowing over fields full of grapes. When it's sunny it announces spring much better than Milano - San Remo does (and that is kinda it's job). Sienna is a lovely town to finish in, that last km up the via Santa Catarina is heroic. But it's not a monument. There is a teenager on the start list today who is older than the race itself. Strade becomes a monument when I can tell my grandchildren about how in my day Pogacar did solos of 150km and once, team mates Kopecky and Vollering, sprinted each other to the line whilst fist fighting and shouting profanities at each other (grandfathers are allow to exaggerate)
LibbyHet Belgische #wielerseizoen is gestart. Ik moet plots denken aan mijn buurjongetje, die een "koetuur" kreeg voor op zijn kleine fietsje, nog met zijwieltjes. Hij ging steeds met een rotvaart de helling van de oprit af, de garage in. Tot hij met zo'n klein wieltje bleef haken achter de sluiting van de poort en door de garage vloog. Gebroken sleutelbeen en einde wielercarriรจre.
