The other day I looked at King's Quest V EGA. This was how I originally played the game. I think it was the only Sierra adventure I had played at that point. I later realized upon studying the back of the box closely that we had the lesser version, but now I think "actually this is really good."

It's a double down-conversion from the original paintings to VGA, then to EGA, with a lot of manual retouching going on along the way. The delayed recognition needed to parse some of the dithered images helps create more investment in the world.
