Keebin’ with Kristina: the One with the RollerMouse Keyboard
Keebin’ with Kristina: the One with the RollerMouse Keyboard
Yay! First time in 15 months (since badly fracturing my wrist and the surgery to put everything back together!) that I've been able to type on my Kinesis Advantage 2 keyboard!
Just have to remind myself of the #Maltron layout, most of the muscle memory is there but I keep forgetting where some of the less used keys are! 😅
Found those 2 ergonomics keyboards on 2nd hand shop… They need fixing, but first a good bath.
There’s a downside of using ergonomic keyboards with bowl shaped key wells.
And yes, the keyboard was plugged in.

Thanks to some lovely folk at @OpenLabAugsburg, I managed to desolder the broken switch & replace it with a new Cherry Brown :)
Life with an Alt-key is 👌
These Kinesis keyboards are forgiving enough to fix even for a soldering noob like me.
Now what do I do with 19 more Cherry Brown switches? :D
Musings on Input Devices
https://blog.narf.ssji.net/2024/02/29/musings-on-input-devices/
My main input devices are an Ergodox with blank keycaps in a Dvorak layout, and an Evoluent Vertical Mouse. My mobile uses a 9-keys swipe-based keyboard (MessageEase until recently, now Thumb-Key with a compatible layout). People sometimes ask me about this, and then I talk to them for way longer than they signed up for. Perhaps a written summary would save some in the future (but do ask if you want a chat!).

@dhry
Yeah, people who have no health issues don't have to switch to full ergo, agreed.
My reason to switch was a slight pain when I put one of my hands in a certain position - not *during* typing, but the position was clearly *related* to typing.
Articles said that developers who had to quit because of #RSI could work again thanks to #KinesisAdvantage, so I thought that should be good for prevention. And I was right; my pain was gone after a few months & never returned.
RIP, my space bar. You were almost old enough to vote.
