Back in the late 90s I was commuting home across London in heavy winter rain, in a knackered old Ford Sierra. The road was up hill, and a single lane bounded by temporary roadwork barriers. And it was rush hour.
The timing belt broke and the engine was destroyed.

The cars behind beeped!
I tried to push my car up the hill, but couldn't.

The cars behind beeped.
I asked the driver behind to help, he ignored me and beeped.

I kept trying to push, using my foot to stop the car rolling back.
The cars behind beeped.

Then a motorcyclist appeared and started pushing my car with all their might. Between us we got the car past the roadworks and onto the curb.
They then ran back to their bike, stopped on the other side of the road, before I could say 'thank you' properly.
The cars behind beeped in annoyance as they went past.

Thank you, stranger on a motorbike, I have never forgotten.
