Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, dessen Leben wie ein literarischer Gegenentwurf zur kolonialen Moderne wirkte, starb am 28. Mai 2025 im Alter von 87 Jahren im amerikanischen Exil. Ein afrikanischer Schriftsteller? Das wäre zu kurz gegriffen. Er war ein Spracharchitekt, ein politischer Denker, ein Gefangener ohne Urteil und ein Lehrer, der die kulturelle Demontage des Empire mit Tinte und Zunge betrieb.
