Upside of living in a (conservative) US rural county is plenty of room for kids to play. Case in point: turns out there's a Christmas Tree farm a few miles down our road that drives you to the field with a *tractor*.
Kids were thrilled, tree is lovely, and all this before lunch.

Our oldest is a bit over 4 years old & is just starting to pick up social nuance. He made his first original joke last week: it was great, & i was thrilled <what sound does a bullfrog make?>.
He's also going through a "smashing things" phase, seems part physical excitement (jumping around & waving sticks) & partly
social (forbidden acts are fun). He's in daycare & brings home concepts like guns & "bad guys" that he doesn't get here. We try to explain & model kindess & consent.
