An update on our stolen Hyundai. It’s been recovered with a damaged bumper and windows busted out.

Best guess is that it’s part of a spree of joyriding thefts from groups of young people who then post about their escapades on social media using tags like #kiaboys or #kiaboyz

Hyundai and Kia thefts have skyrocketed since how easy they were to steal went viral on TikTok. We had one stolen from our household and another from a neighbor this week. Video footage from the neighbor’s theft showed it took about a minute to steal the car and it was a convoy of likely stolen Kias & Hyundais that rolled through the neighborhood. As I learned from personal experience two weeks ago, car thefts (particularly Kias and Hyundais) are on the rise throughout the United States. It's a terrible violation to have your car stolen. Today's post combines my personal story with lots of advice for ways you can make your vehicle less tempting or accessible to thieves. If you DO suffer a theft, there's an organized pathway to recovering your car, or at least recovering from your loss.
