I just saw a photo of a vigil for John Lennon in Central Park in 1980, with a woman holding a sign that said IMAGINE IF WE HAD GUN CONTROL. And it struck me how long this debate has been going on in the US. #khistory

I marvelled how Lewis T. Powell, conspirator in the Abraham Lincoln assassination plot of 1865, seen here in wrist irons aboard the USS Saugus, kept such beautiful hair in a situation like that. Thankfully history boffins preserved this piece of knowledge: "Taken into custody, Powell was discovered to have a box of pistol cartridges, a compass, hair pomade, a brush and comb"

"Neither argument had any effect on the protesters, who believed that the people of Harlem were going to rise up and join the demonstration, turning a campus rebellion into a biracial revolt. To Ranum, that was fanciful thinking. The radicals, most of them upper-middle-class white kids, spoke a language most Harlem residents would find incomprehensible: the language of Marxism."

I haven't posted enough pictures and my TL begins resemble a wall of text. That's not good. #offk #khistory
Our species, Homo sapiens, has survived for about 200,000 years. Meanwhile Homo erectus survived ten times longer, for nearly 2 million years.

#kphoto #khistory

John C. Calhoun drawn by E. B. & E. C. Kellogg Lithography Company. Calhoun was the seventh vice president of the United States from 1825 to 1832. Born in South Carolina, he adamantly defended American slavery and sought to protect the interests of white Southerners.

I had no idea who he was, when I added the text and black border. Seems to fit him though. #kmeme #khistory
