Great news! #JussiEkholm has been invited to an afternoon of Japanese #swords in Helsinki, 29th Mar, 4pm. He is a well known collector of swords and is visible on international forums. This will not be about practise, but about learning the beauty and crafts behind the #katana.

A must for anyone into #iaido, #kenjutsu or even #aikido. I will definitely be there, so hope to meet some of you then. At the #Nishi dojo.

No sé si lo había compartido o lo pensé pero nunca lo hice, como a veces me pasa, pero a raíz de empezar a practicar #Kenjutsu y gracias a la vigilancia de los dispositivos tecnológicos es que descubrí el manga #Vagabond de #TakehikoInoue y lo cierto es que me he enganchado muchísimo.

Pero lo más interesante de todo esto es que antes hubiera pensando en proyectarme con el protagonista #MiyamotoMusashi y su búsqueda por la perfección marcial en el manejo de la espada, eso hubiera sido en mi juventud, pero lo cierto es que en realidad me estoy interesando por los otros aspectos de la trama como las historias de trasfondo de los personajes secundarios, el apartado histórico que a pesar de ser obra de ficción existe, la espiritualidad, etc.

Una de las historias que más me llegó fue la de un maestro espadachín deprimido que se convierte en padre logrando así tener una segunda oportunidad de dejar algún legado, y en la ironía de no querer enseñarle esgrima a su hijo por querer alejarlo de la violencia y de la obsesión termina en realidad formando lo que parece ser uno de los espadachines del momento. Las revelaciones y el final de esta historia me parecieron muy hermosas.

El manga es en un Japón Feudal por lo cual es una historia que no está libre de violencia, machismos, éticas y morales de diferentes matices y colores, pero cuando logras separar los tantos hay, a mi parecer, una gran historia la cual por el momento voy a continuar leyendo.

Is there anyone who does #iaido or #koryu #kenjutsu who would recognise the chiburi from this kata (#AikiToho by #aikido sensei #Nishio)?

I’m not sure how well the hive mind on Mastodon will work but I’ve been looking for the answer for some time. Some charts list it as a chiburi from #SuioRyu while others don’t. High ranking people from Suio Ryu didn’t recognise it. A practitioner of Aiki Toho stated error in table. But I haven’t been able to link to any other school.
