This old couple always ushers me in; I stand behind them, shoot like crazy, then sprint off. We don’t talk - we just nod and smile.
This year, the garage was closed. I kind of feared the worst. Where else could they be?!
I walked around looking for a new shot, but came up empty and was about to leave when the front door opened, and out she popped with her little charcoal French bulldog. She gestured toward the garage in the universally understood - do you want me to open the door?
ABSOLUTELY!
Up it went, in I went, and settled in - happy for this weird bit of normalcy in a spring full of crazy.
Moments later, the husband walked out in his cozy house slippers and took up his customary spot leaning against the left side of the garage - and all was right in the world.
I shot, ran off, threw out a hundred thank yous.
I really hope we get to do this again next year. :-)
I don’t often like retreading old shots (but it’s definitely a thing for these races and a constant battle to change it up) - this is one that I absolutely love though. I hope I can send them the series I’ve shot in their garage over the last few years someday. :-)"
