Preliminary report on the St Savvas (Kalymnos) anchor, which failed with lethal consequences on 27th March 2026
Suprise: it's not sulphide stress cracking mediated by sulphate reducing bacteria!
Petzl Gougon 10 mm from 2000-2005 should be treated as high risk until we have better data. It might be a bad batch. They might have been used in other crags.
