There's an interesting phenomenon in K-12 education where folks have gotten very comfortable identifying students as disengaged or even lazy without spending any time considering that their work or their experiences in the classroom might just be really boring for them.

I'm not expecting teachers and other educators to compete with entertainment mediums, but if you aren't even considering the student experience, I'm not sure that your arguments about the downfall of children have much "eight to them. #education #k12education #boredom

🎓 Breaking news: Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA is infiltrating K-12 schools with more #buzzwords than a corporate PowerPoint presentation! 🤡 Because nothing says "student well-being" like politicizing recess and turning nap time into a debate on fiscal responsibility. 🙄

I spent about a month working with Claude Code to create a high-low book for #AdultEnglishLearners. It is about the fictional Rivera García family and should work with high school #EnglishLearners also because the family in the story includes 3 children, including one in high school.

The book is written at about a 3rd or 4th grade level.

I would very much appreciate any feedback.

At a school district I worked at, a school board member was found to be sexting a student. Your local school board is not composed of academically minded people - they're mostly local business leaders ensuring they get a cut of district contracts.

And a lot of pedophiles.

Days after board members laughed at the exchange, the Washington County Board of Education called the comments “shocking,” saying “no explanation can justify that.”

In modern society - we really should not have people cooking with oil - that do not know two things...

1) water spreads the fire
2) how to put out an oil fire

Put a top on the pan, use a fire blanket, or use a fire extinguisher (messy)

--
Do not film your cooking lesson and look back at the camera while the fire is going and say - what do I do... or Help...

KNOW BEFORE YOU TURN THE STOVE ON!!!

Rethinking Assessment for Generative AI: Orals and discussions

This post is part of a series on rethinking assessment in light of generative AI. The posts draw on research and resources from K-12 and tertiary to suggest ways that educators can design engaging, compelling assessments which shift the narrative away from GAI and "cheating". In a previous post, I talked about the risks associated with trying to "catch" students, such as the ethical issues with detection software, the mistrust created by heavy-handed academic integrity policies, and the […]

The AI Assessment Scale: Version 1

Rethinking Assessment for Generative AI: Beyond the Essay

The posts draw on research and resources from K-12 and tertiary to suggest ways that educators can design engaging, compelling assessments which shift the narrative away from GAI and "cheating". Click here for the previous post on oral assessments. There are plenty of good reasons to use the essay as a formal piece of assessment. Essays offer an opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge in a […]
