I accidentally discovered two old backup disks, which took me on a lovely data spelunking trip this weekend (might have missed some sleep).

The moment I decided to back them up to cloud, I had the disappointing experience of what Dropbox has become.

Add to that the near demise of the USian Empire, and I've decided to move to a European provider.

So, it looks like this week, I'll take myself, and then you, on an rclone adventure.

PS: the two "services" which Google AI was shoving in my face, I'll give a hard pass. Their websites were slop, so I'm not trusting their code.

One year ago I just had it with O365 due to many reasons, us based, integrity and the final punch the absurd price increase due to AI services I never asked for so I left for Jottacloud and I’m still very happy.

Mein Microsoft Konto wollte ich löschen, allerdings gibt es einen Bug bei privaten Konten:
„Sie müssen Ihre Arbeitsorganisation verlassen“
im weiteren lande ich in einem Login-Fehler „private Konten nicht erlaubt“

mittlw. bin ich im Kontakt mit dem Msft-Datenschutzteam.

This is the first script being obfuscated .... and you wonder why put so much energy into doing such nonsense.

And why on earth use Perl to obfuscate when a Base64 blob would actually work just as fine without pulling in a huge Perl dependency chain ...

This packaging is using the wrong tools for the wrong reasons.

@lerfru #jottacloud speichert die Dateien unverschlüsselt. Die Verschlüsselung ist auf dem Transport vorhanden, aber scheint nicht beim speichern zu sein. Wenn man Bilder oder ein Album teilt, dann erfolgt das über einen URL, die keinen weiteren Schutz hat. Ist zwar praktisch, da andere keinen Account brauchen, aber theoretisch kann jeder den Link öffnen. Ich habe Jottacloud seit einigen Jahren, weil man damit auch MS Office im Browser hat.

@anjavoss Ich habe mich für #jottacloud entschieden.
Foto-Backup und -Zugriff funktionieren ganz einfach über die App, auf allen Geräten, wenn es eingerichtet ist.
Preis-Leistung finde ich auch gut.
Der Server-Standort ist in Norwegen.

Ich bin bei #posteo und sehr zufrieden.

Und als #Cloud nutze ich #Jottacloud für Fotos und Dokumente. Super.

Und beides mit der Sicherheit, die ich brauche.

De flesta förvarar eller säkerhetskopierar säkerligen sina bilder på iCloud, Google Photos eller Microsoft Onedrive. En del kanske använder Flickr eller nån annan sajt. Samtliga de nämnda sajterna ägs av US-amerikanska företag och alla förutom Flickr ägs av ett av de 5 stora IT-företagen.

I'm in the process of finding the best alternative for replacing Google Photos with a non-US alternative (preferably European) and so far the choice seems to be between #Jottacloud, #Ente, and #Nextcloud (hosted at #Hetzner). Ente seems to be the most polished, but their casting to TV is crappy. Jottacloud works perfectly and is cheap, but lack built-in photo editing. Nextcloud doesn't have video thumbnails, but is the cheapest at the 1 TB i currently need.
