Book review #21 for 2024 is Edward P. Crapol's John Tyler, the Accidental President. I think that seeing the 1840's era Presidents getting more critical looks is good for the study of American History in general and presidential history in particular. I think that the work adds to the understand of not just Tyler's administration but of 1840's America as well. #JohnTyler doesn't get much in the way of love from historians but I would absolutely watch an HBO mini-series about the events around his presidency, specifically the ways in which he set the precedent with regards to VP's taking over the office of President.

We don't get LBJ, Truman, Teddy R or ...Andrew Johnson without Tyler and his stubborn belief that he was now *The President* rather than just Acting President.
