Amusingly, after playing A Love Supreme (which had only been recorded with Rudy Van Gelder seven months before), the promoters requested that they play "more familiar material" the following nights.
If only they knew.

This is going to be a Coltrane-heavy year, given his centenary, and RSD26 has a few releases to mark the occasion.
This 4LP set documents the two concerts the Quartet did in France during their week-lone stint in Europe.
This is well known for being the quartet's *only* live, full recording of A Love Supreme (reconstructed by Charly).

This is a good piece for a Sunday, reflective and spiritual, to my ear. So listen to the John Coltrane Quartet's gorgeous, modal "Suite," from "Transition," recorded in 1965 (but released posthumously in 1970). When I was younger, I would lie on the floor between two speaker cabinets to listen to this LP; I prefer it to "A Love Supreme" (heresy I know, but there it is).
