"Speaking to The J.CA, a local #Jewish organization said, “Posting highly charged political material outside #JewishStudies is not neutral. It sends a message to Jewish #students that their academic spaces are contested and that their identity is inseparable from #geopolitical accusations.”
Unfortunately this article focuses most of its attention on Israel/IHRA. I wish it had explored this paragraph's theme more. The targeting of the Jewish Studies department at a Canadian University as a political protest of Israel and/or Israel's government is the issue.
Jewish existence on campuses in the diaspora can't be what is being contested. I remember shortly after Oct 7th when some Mastodon bro tried to argue that defacing a Jewish Deli in LA with anti-Israel stuff was legit because Jews eat there.
The implication is that Jews writ large are being contested. Not Israel or Israeli policy. That is fucking dangerous.
Anyway, not a great article, but I like this quote.
