Ein Moment, in dem das Kino seine ganze eigene Geschichte neu überschrieben hat: Dieser Film gehört ganz ohne Zweifel zu den ganz seltenen Fällen. Er ist noch immer ein Monument. Aber auch eines, das immer noch unter seiner Oberfläche brodelt. Kein sauberer Sandalenfilm, sondern ein hochpolitischer Kommentar. Einer, der unter der Last seiner eigenen Entstehungsgeschichte fast zerbrochen ist und genau daraus noch immer seine ganze Wucht zieht.
